Burrawangs class news

Written by Gae Jansen

Hello Burrawang families

Today we begin our History presentations. I will be showing the students what is expected when you give a talk to the class. I have an old iron that would’ve been heated by standing it on the wood stove and I have a modern electric steam iron. I will introduce my topic first. Then I will discuss how each was used and what each is made of. Then allow for any questions. This will model to the students what they can do when they present their projects. You can have a practice at home first with them to build their confidence. The projects will be presented over the next couple of weeks until everyone has had their turn.

We are all honing our skipping skills in our efforts to raise awareness about healthy hearts. Students are encouraged to sign up online and log their skipping activity and collect sponsorship money, which goes to the National Heart Foundation for research. They can also win some great prizes for their efforts.

Tomorrow the SRC (student representative council) are holding a Crazy Hair Day. They are raising money for Cystic Fybrosis Research. So send the kids along to school tomorrow 6th August with a wild and wacky hairdo and a gold coin donation for the cause.

Next Tuesday we will be having the Robotics Day that was postponed from Week 1. There are still a few people who need to pay for this and students were reminded yesterday.

Please remind your child to bring their home reader folder to school each day as this term we are reintroducing daily borrowing of home readers. So far this year we have been working on decodable readers (in which all words can be sounded out). We are now allowing the students to choose a daily reader. As these are not ‘decodable readers”. If they come across words they don’t know, have them try to sound out the sounds they know and help them with the rest. They are all super keen readers at school with our decodables and we want to encourage daily home reading also.

Have a great week
